Applicants must ensure availability for all three modules.

Pre-requisites for the advanced training include:

·         Completing a Foundation Course

·         Comprehensive training in psychology/psychotherapy/counselling and membership of a related professional association e.g. NZPS, NZCCP, NZAP, NZAC, NZACC

·         Sending in application with the non-refundable deposit

This evidence based training involves:

·         3 x 3 day modules over a period of 9 months:

o         Mod 1:attachment and adult sexuality, the neuroscience of human relationships, the nature of love, models of relationships, models of sex therapy, affairs, transference, counter transference and erotic transference.

o         Mod 2: sexual orientation, gender & the notion of fluid sexualities. The adult sexual sequelae of childhood sexual abuse. Destructive expressions of sexuality: compulsivity, atypical sexual behaviours etc.

o         Mod 3:  The impact on sexuality of illness, aging, medication and disability.

·         Pre and post-module reading material and lists will be provided. Applicants must be prepared to spend 5 hours study time per week.

·         Assignments after modules one and two to help you integrate learning from the modules and your reading.

·         A tape will be required of your work after module 3 with a client dealing with issues of sexuality.

·         You will be required to complete a minimum of fifty hours of sex therapy supervised by a member of STNZ or other approved supervisor at your own cost.
